WORLD DIABETES DAY – 14TH NOVEMBER 2018

Diabetes is a serious and complex condition which can affect the entire body. Diabetes can have a significant impact on quality of life and can reduce life expectancy. While there is currently no cure for diabetes, you can live an enjoyable life by learning about the condition and effectively managing it.

When someone has diabetes, their body can’t maintain healthy levels of glucose in the blood. Glucose is a form of sugar which is the main source of energy for our bodies. Unhealthy levels of glucose in the blood can lead to health complications.

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness and kidney failure in adults. It increases the risk of heart attacks and stroke and affects mental health as well as physical health.

It is recommended that people with diabetes have moderate amounts of carbohydrate and include foods that have a low GI (glycemic index).

The glycemic index or GI ranks carbohydrates according to their effect on blood glucose levels. The lower the GI, the slower the rise in blood glucose levels will be when the food is consumed. The effect may differ from person to person.

Some research has shown that by eating a diet with a lower GI, people with diabetes can reduce their average blood glucose levels. This is important in reducing the risk of developing diabetes-related complications.

Sunshine Sugar has introduced a Low GI sugar made wholesome by retaining the naturally occurring and beneficial antioxidants, just as nature intended. One hundred percent natural, low GI sugar is more slowly digested, absorbed and metabolised – resulting in a lower and slower rise in blood glucose.
